Just A Dumb Okie short stories and Jokes | by WIll Welton Sep. 04, 2010 | 25406 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Growing up during the 1940’s and 1950’s, in the Choctaw (McCurtain and Choctaw Counties) and Creek Indian (Okmulgee County) Nations of Oklahoma, with the spoken languages of Choctaw, Ojibwa, Spanish and English was an asset in my knowledge of story telling. A reporter for the McCurtain County Gazette told me, “Write down the stories and the things you have done in life for some day they would be useful in keeping the tales of the old folks alive after we all are gone.” Working various jobs from cowboy and farmer to holding, the positions of Foreman of a bridge gang, with the Saint Louis San Francisco, Railroad and Command Sergeant Major in the Army, gave me the opportunity to meet a wide variety of people. Medically discharged from the military, I did construction work until finally being forced to retire completely because of my health. Moving near Russellville Alabama because my children came to this area to work and raise my grand-children. Now I live and play near the Crooked Oak community near seven of my grand-children. The older three grand-children have read all but four of my novels so there is not sexual intent or as much violence as on the evening news. I have written short stories, young adult books, free lance magazine articles, articles for several news papers and write novels about the tales of the old folks when I was growing up. In addition, to the twenty Western novels, I have written two mysteries of modern day times. |

Showdown at SunnyView Playground (a short-short) | by Michael Crane Sep. 04, 2010 | 675 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Michael Crane is an indie author and scribbler of inane babble that can sometimes end up as stories. He went to Columbia College Chicago where he earned a BA in Fiction Writing. He is currently the author of two short story collections, and he also might've written two books while he was in high school, but he refuses to own up to them and that's why they aren't included on the page. He lives in Illinois and is always trying to work on something new, unless he's battling stupid writer's block. Some of his favorite writers are Raymond Carver, Richard Yates, Kurt Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis and Hunter S. Thompson. |

WATER and other stories | by Daron Fraley Sep. 03, 2010 | 5943 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Daron Fraley was born in Powell, Wyoming, but doesn’t consider himself a cowboy. Living in France for a couple of years provided him the opportunity to hone his cooking skills and to become addicted to good food and chocolate. Apart from his loving family, teaching and writing are his two most favorite things in the world. A classic computer geek, he still likes to fish and camp, makes a mean apple or pumpkin pie from scratch, and once fixed a gas clothes dryer using photocopier parts. With all of his interests in music, art, the sciences, and religion (especially religion), he would have been quite comfortable living during the Renaissance. Having toured chilly castles while in France, he is glad he didn’t live during that time. “The Thorn” is his first novel. After ten total years in the wonderful state of Indiana, Daron, his wife Jennifer, and their six children once again live in the beautiful Rockies, close to friends and family in Wyoming and Utah. |

The House of Question's: Skip (Sample) | by Stephen Dobson Sep. 02, 2010 | 10356 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I am a dumbass, genius, heterosexual, paranoid, geeky, quirky, dreamy, toasty, born again, ass-kickin', cocky sonofabitch who loves the sound of his own voice. I don't claim to be the greatest writer, singer, guitarist, pianist or womanizer ever created by God's callused fingers but I do love a good story. You're here because you love a good story too. Most of my stories are a compiling of old ideas and story lines slapped together with duct tape to create something unstable, entertaining and unique. You're either going to hate me or love me. I hope for the latter. |

Finding Kindness | by K.C. May Sep. 02, 2010 | 1138 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Hi! I'm K.C. May. Thanks for visiting my Smashwords page. I grew up in the mid-western USA and in Hawaii, and earned a B.A. in Russian from Florida State University. After a year in Taiwan teaching English and studying Mandarin Chinese, I lived in the Arizona desert where I founded a Rottweiler rescue organization, studied karate, went backpacking, tried sky-diving, did some downhill skiing, got a couple motorcycles, wrote software, and spent time on the shooting range. In 2010, I retreated to cooler, greener Georgia. I earn my living as a full-time writer. My first novel, The Kinshield Legacy, was initially published in hard-cover in 2005. Now it's available as an eBook and in paperback. I had a blast writing it, and I'm working on a sequel and a science fiction novel. I hope you enjoy the story! |

| Author bio: My vocation is as a Sr. Systems Analyst for a large company in the United States. During my off hours, I spend them as the Staff Photographer for the magazine 'What's Hot Tampa Bay' and also enjoy writing short stories. This is my first novel. As a photographer, I have had the priviliage of being invited to capture the Canadian Olympic team during their team trials prior to Beijing and the boat 'Earthrace' during it's world attempt to break the record circumnavigating the globe. This boat later became 'Aby Gil' and was sunk by the Japanese during it's use in the the continuing battle of Whale Wars. Many of my photographs have appeared in hundreds of magazines, newspapers and books around the world. With regards to my writing experience, I wrote a monthly column for the publication 'SouthWinds' which was a sailing magazine. My stories have also appeared in many different publications. I have been married to my wife Cathy for over 30 years and have two sons and one golden retriever named Maggie. I am currently working on the sequel to 'Declaration of Surrender' and will hopefully have it ready for publication by January 2010. |
